One of the most common questions we tend to ask others, “What do you do?”, is solely aimed at someone’s profession. Since a year or so I have trouble answering this question. Sure, I’m a lecturer, however, there are so many other things that keep me busy.
Sure, someone’s profession might be a nice conversation starter. However, it tells us so little about the person.
The question in itself is flawed, we do so many things. Why do you do what you do? Have you ever stopped to wonder who you really are? After thinking on this for some time I had to acknowledge that, even though I was a (part-time) radiographer, it stopped me doing what I really enjoyed. Being radiographer was nice, I did a lot of things and got to contribute to the welfare of others. However, working only one day a week it was limiting me in being me. Like others I enjoy learning, and even though radiographer has a lot to offer my chances were limited from the limited employment. After long deliberation and hesitation I decided to quit.
When I look back now a few months later I miss the job and colleagues, however, I learned how to program which is an amazing skill.
Words might describe what we do, but rarely do justice to who we are.
The subtitle of my site has giving me some headaches a while back. Many blog’s describe writer with keywords, a few words barely tell you anything. I wrote a keyword generator which allows me to go well beyond the mere three or four keywords.
